Most small businesses assume advisory boards are for bigger companies. In practice, an informal group of three or four people whose judgement you trust — checked in with quarterly — does most of what a formal board offers, without the overhead.
The value isn't the meeting. It's having people outside your own head who will tell you the truth about a decision before you've made it, not after it's gone wrong.
Pick people who've done something you haven't yet — scaled a team, sold a business, navigated the exact stage you're heading into. Ask them properly, meet with intent, and actually use what they tell you.
Who are the three people you'd ask, if you asked this week?
