Referral relationships that actually last

A referral relationship built on one good conversation rarely survives the first quiet quarter.

Most practices treat referral relationships as something that happens to them — a colleague sends a patient, you're grateful, and that's the whole relationship.

The practices with a genuinely reliable referral base treat it differently: a deliberate, ongoing relationship, with real communication back to the referrer about how their patient is going, not just a thank-you note once.

That loop — refer, treat, report back — is the entire mechanism. Most practices only do the first two steps and wonder why referrals dry up.

Pick your three most valuable referral relationships. When did you last actually close the loop with them?
