The financial check-up most practices skip

Practitioners are meticulous about patient check-ups and surprisingly casual about their own practice's financial health.

Revenue coming in, bills getting paid — that's often the entire financial review a busy practice gets, month after month. It's not enough to know if the practice is actually healthy.

A real financial check-up looks past cash in the bank: margin by service line, cost per patient, the true value of your time versus what you're actually charging for it, and where the quiet leaks are.

Most practices that struggle financially aren't unprofitable — they're financially unexamined. The problems were visible in the numbers months before they were visible in the bank balance.

Block an afternoon this quarter. Look past the bank balance to the numbers underneath it.
